5 Ways to Beat Holiday Stress

float therapyWhile for some it’s the “most wonderful time of the year,” the holiday season can often be the most stressful time of the year. From busy schedules to finding the perfect gift to crowded airports and traffic jams, it can be tough to sit back and enjoy the season of giving. Here are a few ways you can relieve that built-up holiday stress – and maybe even experience some of that joy they talk about!

Set some boundaries.

This time of year, it’s easy to get pressured into doing too much. From baking cupcakes for your kids’ school party to organizing your church’s Christmas concert to hosting a holiday dinner, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed this time of year. Set some boundaries and know that it’s okay to say no. If you’re tired, rest; this season will still go on without you (and you’ll likely enjoy it more).

Make gifting easy.

Stressing out about choosing the perfect gifts isn’t going to do anyone any good. So relax; as long as you include a gift receipt with your gift, the recipient can get whatever he or she wants. Or just do yourself a favor and buy gift cards this year; everyone will be just as happy.

Don’t overindulge.

When you’re stressed out, you might be fooled into thinking that eating comfort foods will make you feel better. But all those rich, fatty, starchy holiday foods will have the opposite effect. Don’t yield to sugary temptations; keeping your diet healthier can actually help you reduce stress.

Get a workout in.

When schedules are full, it can be tempting to give up the hour or so you spend at the gym or on the running trail. But forgoing your workout isn’t doing you any good. Exercise is heavily linked to stress reduction and you’ll be amazed how much better you feel about everything on your plate once you’ve sweated it out.

Float on.

Make some time for yourself this holiday season and use it to relax. The beauty of float therapy is that it requires you to push those nagging worries out of your mind for the duration of your float theropy session. Once you’ve had some time to relax and unwind, you’ll be amazed at how much better you feel about tackling the holiday season.
